church at that time knew that Galileo was right but they suppressed the reality on because church do not want to lose its hold on society ...by showing the earth the center of the universe they formulate a concept that church is the center of earth and pope is the center of church...they told humanity at that time poor people who are suffering on earth will get reward by God as God has eye on them... Galileo's theory was not against religion ,it was going against the so called hold of church ..if they admit him it means that the people of church are admitting that their interpretation of Bible was wrong ..it would shake the people s faith from religion and in return church would no more get its share from people .... remember when in part 2 of the play sagredo asked Galileo where is God in ur cosmogony..he replied within ourselves or no where? so how can he be an anti religion
