Heaney contrariness

What value does Heaney ascribed of contrariness in his poetry?

Heaney was a prolific Irish poet, writer and critic. He witnesses religious, political and social clashes on his land. For him,one of the best solutions in this regard is to follow theory of contrariness. He says that without following theory of contrariness, there would be no progress at all.Contrary views build up healthy atmosphere in a society.Heaney allots main place to theory of contrariness. Thus,it carries great significance.
Why Heaney does it so?
Heaney believes on pacifism. His literary approach makes him a pacifist.Protestant's domination was the order of the day.He wants to make his society peaceful.Protestant's domination over catholics in Heaney's time triggered many controversies. The appalling state of Northern Ireland due to colonialism imposed by British witnesses massacre and cruelities.Heaney gives solution to all the contemporary problems and clashes. He presents an intermediate way to sort out all the conflicts.
>>Casting and gathering is the best example to explain.
He says,"I loved hushed air,I trust contrariness"
>You can also compare his theory with William Blake's views on contrariness.
>Unlike other poets like William Wordsworth,P.B.Shelley and A.E.Houseman,he believes in his internal source for writing. He peeps down into his own soul.It would be contrast.
Conclusion:To wound up the above discussion,we can say that Heaney's theory of contrariness not only deals with the Irish political, religious and social scenario but also it has universal appeal. It teaches us how to show patience. It instructs morality. It allows us to listen the arguments of others so that the better, impartial and unbiased result may become the part and parcel of the society. Thus, welfare of man and the society and toleration are its supreme values.
